A Message from the Anglican, Catholic, and Lutheran Bishops of Saskatchewan

The events surrounding the tragic shooting death of Colten Boushie in August 2016, and the subsequent trial of Gerald Stanley and recent jury decision, have re-surfaced profound pain to families and communities. They have also raised enormously important questions and challenges for our province and our country.

Catechumens from across the diocese will gather for the Rite of Election with Bishop Mark Hagemoen on the First Sunday of Lent (includes Mass)

The Rite of Election will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 18, 2018 at the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon: Everyone is welcome to this diocesan celebration, with Bishop Mark Hagemoen presiding.

Please note that for the first time in many years, this year's Rite of Election will also include celebration of the Sunday Eucharist for the First Sunday of Lent.

A federal government summer employment funding program requiring groups to attest that their core mandate supports “reproductive rights” is being addressed in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.

 

The federal government’s Canadian Summer Jobs application describes these rights as specifically including “the right to access safe and legal abortions”.

The Catholic Aboriginal Council for Reconciliation was created by the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) in 1998 to provide resources to increase awareness of aboriginal issues, to support processes of healing and to foster aboriginal faith leadership in the Christian community. In 2002, this Council recommended that each year December 12 be a National Day of Prayer for Aboriginal People. This is a fitting date as it is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe who is recognized as Our Lady of the Americas.
